Why the efficiency-flow rate relationship is parabolic in hydraulic Machinery?

Hydraulic machinaries like pumps and turbines are made for a fixed angle of attack at which there is no shock.With the increase of flow rate efficiency increases,then reaches at a maximum value(when it reaches it angle of attack).After that ,with the increase of flow rate,shock is created which reduces the power output.So the overall curve becomes parabolic.
